Site-specific substitution in atomically precise carboranethiol-protected nanoclusters and concomitant changes in electronic properties

This study presents the synthesis and structural modification of a silver-based nanocluster [Ag17(o1-CBT)12]3- (Ag17) by incorporating Au and Cu at specific sites, forming AuAg16, Ag13Cu4, and AuAg12Cu4. These modifications systematically alter their structural, electronic, and optical properties, with Au stabilizing the core and Cu enhancing photoluminescence and prolonging excited-state lifetimes. The study demonstrates a tunable platform for nanocluster design, potentially useful for optoelectronics, catalysis, and sensor applications due to their stability and enhanced luminescence properties.
