AreaThis team has been established since the late 1950s thanks to lifelong work by J. Plešek, S. Heřmánek and later B. Štíbr. Boron chemistry in Řež has been gradually developping since early 1960's - practically since the beginning of significant development of this scientific discipline in the world; it hence forms one of cornerstones of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry. The topics in the Department is represented by fundamental research on boron clusters, but its results are traditionally devoted also to search for practical implications of these interesting compounds. Novel topics have been introduced in the 2000s by B. Grüner, current Head of the team and some of his younger colleagues. The team at IIC adheres to the World Boron Community and its position here has been firmly established over many years. Borane clusters are entirely artificial molecules of surprisingly rich chemistry and remarkable 3D structures. Currently the most promising research focus is on their application in materials chemistry and pharmacology.Scientific topics Pharmacologically Relevant Boron Cluster Compounds (B.
