Three Days of a Scientific Ride at the Science Fair: Candy, Lasers, and “Top Secret Research”

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth at the 2025 Science Fair – it was intense, lively, and incredibly inspiring! We truly enjoyed these three days with all of you – from the youngest explorers to curious adults, from those who just came to have a look to those who challenged us with tricky scientific questions.

Our science zone offered a colorful range of attractions: children could build candy molecules, make their own slime, paint with pigments and egg yolk like the old masters, or try real chemical experiments in the workshop Acids and Bases Around Us. A special highlight was the chance to draw authentic Indian symbols with our colleague from India – using secret invisible ink.

As every year, you gladly immersed yourselves in virtual reality – this time assembling a borane cluster to power a laser defending Earth from incoming space meteors. Also packed, as always, was our escape game Top Secret Research, which took you back to the 1960s – the Cold War era when our institute was developing rocket fuels for space travel.

For those wanting to dive even deeper into the world of science, our presentation booth offered the chance to chat with our researchers, try working in an inert atmosphere using a glovebox, or get drawn into our new chemistry show Boron Power. This show introduced not only borane-based rocket fuels but also the future of boron in the field of proton–boron nuclear fusion.

We’re already looking forward to next time – and thank you for exploring, discovering, and having fun with us!

Curious what it looked like at our booth? Check out the gallery below and a highlight video from the “Boron Power” chemistry show.
